Family Candy Cane Hunt
Set out on tasty candy cane hunts around the Outdoor Education Center in Babler State Park! The first hunt is a free-for-all scramble, and the second is a clue-driven scavenger-style hunt. Then step inside to make festive crafts, sip hot cocoa, and win prizes! Trek or Treat: A GPS Haunt
Grab your ghouls and goblins and join us for a spooktacular GPS adventure! Families will learn the basics of using a handheld GPS unit as they navigate throughout the area. Along the route, participants will locate hidden points, collect items, and trade them in for sweet candy rewards at the end. We will also have Halloween crafts to create and take home. Costumes are encouraged! Prior GPS experience is not needed... No tricks, just treats! Learn the ABCs of backpacking, from how to pack to what to bring and why. Once you know the fundamentals of backpacking, you are sure to be safe and comfortable on overnight or multi-day trips into nature. Smoky Mountains Adventure 2027
The Smoky Mountains Adventure trips are open to Rockwood students entering fifth grade in the fall of 2026. Travel to the Great Smoky Mountains for an adventure-packed four days exploring the wilderness, searching for wildlife, learning about the environment and developing leadership skills. Stay at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, an environmental education center located within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Smoky Mountains Adventure Trip Dates: Trip 1: March 5-8, 2027 (departs morning of March 5) | Kehrs Mill, Ridge Meadows, WestridgeTrip 2: April 2-5, 2027 (departs morning of April 2) | Geggie, Kellison, Wild HorseTrip 3: April 9-12, 2027 (departs morning of April 9) | Fairway, Pond, Stanton, WoertherTrip 4: April 30-May 3, 2027 (departs morning of April 30) | Ellisville, Eureka, Uthoff ValleyTrip 5: May 14-17, 2027 (departs morning of May 14) | Ballwin, Blevins, Green PinesTrip 6: May 21-24, 2027 (departs morning of May 21) | Babler, Bowles, Chesterfield Fee: $795 Full payment option: Pay the full amount of $795 upon acceptance on the trip. Installment option: A $235 deposit is due upon acceptance on the trip. If you choose the installment option, your account will automatically be set up to make four installment payments of $140 each due on November 2, December 1, January 3 and February 1. Limited fee assistance may be available to those who qualify. Registration: Registration will take place through a random draw lottery. The lottery sign up period will run May 1 through September 30, 2026.On October 1, the system will randomly draw from those who have registered for the lottery and will assign students to trips. You may only register for the lottery for your child's assigned school trip. You may not register for another school's trip. You only need to register one time for each child. All those registering for the lottery will have an equal chance to be drawn for the trip, regardless of when they register between May 1-September 30. Families can still register for the trip after October 1. There is no guarantee all students will be placed on a trip. If a trip is full, you have the option to register for the wait list and you will be contacted if/when a space becomes available.
