Machine Sewing for Beginners

Learn the basics of using a sewing machine and complete beginner-friendly projects in a supportive environment. This course is perfect for those with little or no sewing experience. You will be introduced to essential techniques such as fabric selection, pattern reading, and troubleshooting common issues. Through hands-on practice, you’ll master straight and curved seams, hemming, and simple construction skills. Projects may include tote bags, pillowcases, or basic garments. All materials and sewing machines are provided. Taught by Parkway FACS teacher Rachel Zluhan.

I am a FACS teacher at Fern Ridge High School. I am very creative and have a degree in Environmental Biology. My main interests are anything with cooking, sewing, art, nature, horticulture, or anything else involving hands-on creativity. I am working for Community Ed because I want to expand my work as an educator on various different topics and skills.
